We knew Rachel could do it if she wanted to do it. I must say it was a proud parenting moment for me--having survived the first grading period with 6 A's and one B-. You should've seen the crying and incredulous look on Rachel's face when she was encouraged to do better next time. You should've heard her gentle-hearted father saying, "How can you listen to her sobbing? Aren't her grades close enough? We all can't be students like you were." Let me tell you--the B- was for missing assignments. How can you reward that behavior? Well, it was tough, but we made it! The purchasing of the cell phone, however, just about killed me. We are very grateful to EmmaLee who spent considerable time and effort looking into adding Rachel to their plan. In the end, (after walking out of 3 places, because the best they could do for us to maintain Steve's plan and add Rachel with unlimited text was at least $100/month. Mind you, this is without me on the plan at all) we found a nice guy at the Costco kiosk who told us that although AT&T never advertises it (and, yes, the AT&T store was the first place I walked out of) they do have a $59.99/month family plan that we could add unlimited text messaging to for $20/month and Steve's $5/month limited texting plan. Holy ridiculousness! It truly made me nauseous. Rachel's BFF texts on average 2,000 texts per month. The cell phone companies will not allow you to place a block on a phone after it has reached it's maximum text allowance for the month because they make BIG bucks letting you go over it. Alas.
However, Rachel has been very responsible with her phone. She doesn't bring it to church or YW's and turns it over to me at 8:30p.m. She is one happy camper.

I am so proud of you Rachel! That is awesome and it is ridiculous how expensive cell phones are. I know that you can save money sometimes by bundling internet and phone and even tv.
I thought that it was great that one of Rachel's A+s was in History. It must make you proud Sherrie!
