Rachel "graduated" from the D.A.R.E. (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education) program in May. (Every 5th grader at Plainfield takes part in the program.) The Oakland A's sponsor a D.A.R.E. day at their ballpark. We were able to purchase pretty good seats in a special "D.A.R.E." section for a reduced price. The program held a bar-b-que in the parking lot before the game and we happened to hit it just right because they were also having a parade inside the park with military vehicles and some of the police DARE squad cars. Rachel and Nathan were among a handful of students selected to ride in the parade which drove around the outskirts of the field. Their first view of a major league stadium was from the field. It was pretty cool. Rachel said, "Mom, it was SO awesome. Everyone was cheering and shouting and waving at us. I felt like a movie star." I'm not sure if Nathan was more excited about his trip around the field or the fact that he got to ride inside a "real Army car" with "real Army guys." The A's won. There were lots of hits including a homerun. Exciting stuff.

Sounds like an incredibly fun time. How did Rachel like her moment of fame? Does she want to be a real movie star now? I can just imagine Nathans excitement at being in a real army vehicle.
How fun for the kids.
I think that the only thing that would have made it better was if it was a Giants game.
