Rachel loves the beach. She has been wanting to go all year, and we've consistently tried to talk her out of it since the rest of the family does not love wind, cold, and chilly sand. Knowing how important it is to her, we scheduled a trip for yesterday even though the forecast was 65 degrees with 10-20 mile per hour winds (real fun for contact wearers). Knowing how much I hate being cold, Steve offered to take her on his own thus winning Nathan's enthusiastic approval(he was looking forward to it about as much as I was). Remembering the family proclamation, we decided our family success could benefit from some wholesome recreational activity time together, so we all went. And... it was WONDERFUL! The weather was great and the wind was hardly blowing. We had a fabulous time. Our crazy children completely immersed themselves in the frigid Northern Pacific waters with joyous smiles and laughter. Mr. Friendly was able to make friends with one family and with one bikini-clad teenager who both lent them their boggie boards for extended periods of time. He was actually quite good at riding waves. It did, however, take him about 20 minutes to overcome his recent Jaws-induced shark paranoia. (The Dillon Beach surfer website does say to watch out for sharks.) Rachel found a bucket load of shells while Nathan and Steve built sand castles and climbed rocks. We saw two starfish, but the tides were not in our favor for good tide-pooling.

Looks like fun! We are excited to take Ava to the beach someday soon. I'm with Rachel and love the beach. I use to go with my friends all the time and we would just bundle up in sweats and blankets if it got cold...good time to have hot chocolate in the summer.
