Cub Scouts, Indians, and Pocahontas

Cub Scouting has been going strong in Pack 133. We are now up to 11 boys in our den, 4 members and 7 nonmembers. One day after den meeting, Mr. Friendly invited everyone over to our home who had not yet been picked up by their parents. Since 5 boys was not enough, Mr. Friendly invited our neighbor over as well.

Rachel launched into action, organizing activities and giving full reign to creative adventures. After some lunch, all the building materials poured into the family and living rooms. Garages and jumps were constructed and hot wheel cars distributed. Even though he is over 8 1/2, Mr. Friendly still loves to dress-up. Soon Zorro, Batman, and a pirate were swashbuckling through our home. When feathers (including Rachel's feather pen from Lexington and Concord) and yellow fabric were discovered, barechested Indians were born. When only small swatches of the yellow fabric remained, these industrious Cub Scouts actually requested needles and thread, and with a little assistance, sewed them together to form their headbands.

Rachel strung some yarn (who needs rope when you have yarn at your finger tips) between the cherry trees, laid a blanket over it, and waalaa ... a teepee. Of course, not everyone wanted to be an Indian, so cowboys were born. You can't have cowboys and Indians without some fighting. Soon imaginary arrows were flying and a tent had to be set up, so that they could work out a peace treaty.

After the peace treaty was signed, the braves and soldiers switched from tomahawk attacks to Uno Attack.

Pocahontas, thinking she has invited the Vulcan peace sign, is wearing the infamous snake-skinned dress. (Yes, this is the dress she wore to school in 2nd grade and was kindly given to me because a very thoughtful sister in our ward thought of me when she first laid eyes on it. The dress is considerably shorter now. Rachel cut off the bottom third of it to use the material for creating clothing for various stuffed animals.)

Taylor is wisely ducking as Chief Joseph (or Chief Friendly as I prefer to call him) wields his Bionicle-inspired tomahawk.
